Presenting...the Edward L. Combs Collection from Steve & Theresa

Edward L. Combs

Edward L. Combs (1906-1941) was hired by Philco to design many of the cabinets used in Philco's 1929 model lineup. He continued to design cabinets for Philco into the mid-1930s, although his work was used less and less after 1932.

His most famous cabinets are the Model 70 Baby Grand and the Model 90 Baby Grand sets. The Model 70 Baby Grand was originally introduced in early 1931 as Model 21. A 110 volt DC version, Model 46, followed in March 1931. Models 70 and 35 became available in May-June 1931, along with the slightly larger Model 90.

Presenting...the Clyde Shuler Collection from Steve & Theresa

Clyde Shuler

Clyde F. Shuler (1892-1969) was an industrial designer as well as a design educator. Among radio collectors, he is best known for the design of the cathedral radio cabinets which housed Models 36B, 43B, 47B, 52B, 71B and 91B. The same style would be used by Philco in all of its "Baby Grand" (cathedral) cabinets through December 1933, and on many cathedral models up to May 1934.
