PHILCO PHORUM

Philco for 1933 (introduced January 1933)

ALL FALL 1932 MODELS REMAINED IN THE PHILCO LINEUP.
MODEL 71 SETS NOW HAVE SHADOWMETERS, BUT ARE OTHERWISE IDENTICAL TO THEIR JUNE 1932 COUNTERPARTS.

MODEL 14LZX-TU

One of four new chairsides, this set is based on the Model 91 chassis which now had AM and "police" band coverage (1.5 to 3.2 mc).

Original selling price: $150
Number made: 3,650

MODEL 14LZX-SU

The matching speaker sold with Model 14LZX featured the "Inclined Sounding Board." Early versions contained two speakers, while later models only had one.

MODEL 19B

One of two new six-tube Philcos, the Model 19 included a shadowmeter, but was otherwise identical to the Model 89. Early Model 19 sets only have a two-point tone control, just like the 89; a four-point tone control was added later to the 19.

Original selling price: $37.50
Number made: 20,750 (NOTE: Figure includes June 1933 Model 19B)

MODEL 19LZ

A new chairside using the Model 19 chassis. The 19LZ uses a built-in eight inch speaker.

Original selling price: $65
Number made: 2,500 (NOTE: Figure includes Models 19LZX & 91RX)

MODEL 19LZX

This chairside is identical in appearance to the 19LZ above, but uses a separate speaker cabinet which is identical to that used with Model 91RX (see bottom of this page).

Original selling price: $100
Number made: 2,500 (NOTE: Figure includes Models 19LZ & 91RX)

MODEL 26L

This was a radio-phonograph console using a Model 19 chassis. We believe it was similar in appearance to Model 22L, shown on the June 1932 page.

Original selling price & number made: Not available

MODEL 27L

A radio-phonograph console which used a Model 89 chassis. It is believed that this model is similar in appearance to Model 22L, shown on the June 1932 page.

Original selling price & number made: Not available

MODEL 53C

This was Philco's new "cigar box" or "pee-wee" set, made to operate on either AC or DC current.

Original selling price: $25
Number made: 6,250

MODEL 81B

A new four-tube regenerative superheterodyne which could receive the AM band as well as the "police" band (1.5 to 2.8 mc). When Model 81 was introduced, the price of Model 80 was reduced to $15.

Early versions of Model 81B had four knobs; the off-on switch being separate and directly under the tuning knob. Most models, however, have the off-on switch combined with the volume control (as shown at right).

Original selling price: $18.75
Number made: 196,175 (NOTE: Figure includes production of Fall 1932 Model 80B)

MODEL 89B (early version)

Other than the lack of a shadowmeter, the early versions of Model 89 are identical to early Model 19B sets.

Original selling price: $30
Number made: 4,000

MODEL 89B (later version)

A more common version of the early 1933 Model 89, with a flat front panel.

Original selling price: $30
Number made: 94,390 (NOTE: Figure includes production of June 1933 Model 89B)

MODEL 89L

A Model 89 chassis in a compact lowboy cabinet.

Original selling price: $37.50
Number made: 94,974

MODEL 91RX-TU

Yet another new Philco chairside, this is electronically identical to Model 14LZX although the chairside and speaker cabinets are completely different.

Original selling price: $100
Number made: 2,500 (NOTE: Figure includes Models 19LZX & 91RX)

MODEL 91RX-SU

This is the speaker cabinet sold with Model 91RX. Some models may contain twin speakers, but it appears most (if not all) had a single speaker, as with the unit at left. This speaker cabinet is identical in appearance to the speaker cabinet used with Model 19LZX.
