No less than twenty-four proposed 1946 Philco models were stillborn, nearly as many models as were actually put into production in the 1946 season! (A twenty-fifth proposed model did see very limited production - the 46-1210.)
As you will see below, some were recycled 1942 models that did not make it; other designs would be put into production in 1947 or 1948. And many other proposed 1946 models never were produced at all. (A few were produced in Canada under different model numbers; see notes below.)
Philco Models Which Were Never Produced
Battery-operated Farm Sets

Model 46-133 This console apparently would have used a chassis similar to the 46-132 or 46-142. The finish would have been walnut "Philcote" (photofinish). This model was produced in Canada as Model 221. |

Model 46-134 This would have been a large table model with AM and shortwave reception. |
Philco Transitone Models

Model 46-201 This set's cabinet would have been identical to the January 1942 model 42-PT96. |
![]() |
Model 46-202 The 46-202 looks very similar to the 1942 (June 1941) model 42-PT95, except for the rounded ends. |

Model 46-203 This radio would later see production as Model 48-214. It was also produced in Canada as Model 60. |

Model 46-251 This set looks identical to the January 1942 Model 42-PT3. |
Electric (AC and AC-DC) Models

Model 46-433 The 46-433 was identical in appearance to the production Model 46-431. The difference is that the 46-433 would have been an AM-FM receiver instead of having the AM-SW coverage of model 46-431. |

Model 46-442 Another AM-FM table model, this cabinet would have been finished in birdseye maple Philcote (photofinish). |
![]() |
Model 46-452 Identical in appearance to model 46-451 except for the dial scale, this set would have offered AM, FM and shortwave reception. |

Model 46-454 This large AM-SW-FM Model was actually announced in a Philco advertisement of the period, but then withheld from production. It was eventually produced in June 1947 as model 48-482. It was produced in Canada for the 1947 season as Model 66, a six tube set with six pushbuttons. |

Model 46-458 Identical in appearance to the also unproduced model 46-133, the 46-458 was apparently intended to be the replacement for the prewar model 42-358. It would have received the AM band only. |

Model 46-460 Similar to the 46-458 above, the 46-460 would have included a shortwave band along with reception of the standard AM broadcast band. |

Model 46-470 This cabinet looks very similar to the 1942 (June 1941) Model 42-390. It would have featured reception of AM, FM, and one shortwave band. |

Model 46-490 This may have been intended as a replacement for the 42-395, as it looks very similar to it. It appears to have included reception of AM, FM and shortwave. |
Radio-Phonograph Models

Model 46-1202 A table model radio-phonograph which used a single-play automatic phonograph similar to that used in model 46-1201. |

Model 46-1204 Somewhat similar to model 46-1203, this set would have included an AM-FM radio along with the automatic record changer. |

Model 46-1206 A console radio-phonograph with a single play automatic phonograph, similar to that used in model 46-1201. The radio in this set would have received AM only. |

Model 46-1207 The cabinet of this Model is identical to the production Models 46-1226 and 47-1227. Two different designs of this set are shown above: the closed view at left shows the modern FM band on the dial scale (88 to 108 mc), while the open view at right shows a 42 to 56 mc scale, which would have roughly corresponded to the prewar FM band (42 to 50 mc). |

Model 46-1208 This Model would also have included FM reception as well as AM; the closed view at left has the modern FM band on the scale (88 to 108 mc), while the open view on the right shows the prewar FM band (the scale shows 42 to 56 mc). |

Model 46-1210 This cabinet is identical to Models 46-1209 and 47-1230. According to Philco Furniture History, 60 of these 46-1210 models were actually produced. Whether they were scrapped or the cabinets used for production 46-1209 or 47-1230 models is not known. Again, it appears that this model was initially designed to cover the prewar FM band, but then changed to the modern FM band. It appears the Model 46-1210 would have included reception of AM, shortwave and FM. Perhaps the 60 produced were withheld and issued later as part of Model 47-1230 production, as it also featured AM, shortwave and FM reception. |

Model 46-1211 This cabinet is somewhat similar to the prewar Model 42-1010. It would have received AM, shortwave, and either the prewar or modern FM band. |

Model 46-1214 This large cabinet would have received AM, shortwave and FM. It would have been available in a walnut or mahogany finish. The 46-1214 would be issued a year and a half later as Model 48-1274. |

Model 46-1215 Model 46-1215, closed (left) and open (right) This cabinet is similar to the 1942 (June 1941) model 42-1016. No Mystery Control, however - it appears the chassis would have been similar or identical to that eventually used in Models 48-1274 and 48-1276. The set would have been available in a mahogany finish only. |

Model 46-1216 Model 46-1216 would later be issued as model 48-1276. |

Model 46-1217 This proposed set would have been Philco's first to use more than one speaker since the 1938 model 38-690! Philco Furniture History reports that two 12 inch electrodynamic speakers and a 5 inch permanent magnet speaker would have been used in a cabinet that would have been available only in a mahogany finish. The chassis appears to be the same as used later in models 48-1274 and 48-1276. |
