Re: Philco cabinet and chassis model? - Texasrocker - 11-26-2011

As many of us know, several of the 37-6xx chassis' would/ will fit other models Philco cabinets (shafts) holes in different cabinets. Back in the old days, both consoles and table model wood cabinets would sometimes interchange easily. Disregarding the proper shadow meter escutcheons mounting, they weren't necessarily always used. They could be removed entirely from the circuit by adding a wirewound resistor under chassis to rid the shadowmeters entirely. A old timer tube tech that once worked at a authorized Philco service dealer told me this many years ago. The different models of the 37-6xx chassis' type radios would come in for service in various models cabinets. They would repair all the different sets chassis'. Many customers never came back and paid for their Philco repairs, and when they were phoned for pickup of their sets, said the customers told them they had already purchased a new radio instead, leaving the service shops holding all the service charges. After a few months of these similar type chassis' repaired Philco sets taking up room in the repair shops, the techs would then decide and pull various chassis' and match them in other similar Philco cabinets ( that looked better in appearance) to sell them to recoup their parts investments & labor charges. Hence, many 37-6xx type chassis' ended up being mounted in nicer looking cabinets than they came in for repairs. The "swap" shows up from time to time these days. The shadowmeters and escutcheons on several sets could be changed or eliminated to get the chassis' into a more attractive similar cabinet, to recoup the repair shops charges after 90 days as required by law before selling customers merchandise not paid for. Creates "Mystery" Sets for sure these days!

Re: Philco cabinet and chassis model? - fixinmyphilco - 12-04-2011

Next question is how do I wire it al the wires were cut from someone else there's no plug to plug it into and there's no color to the wires from what I see ..Doug

Re: Philco cabinet and chassis model? - Arran - 12-05-2011

That speaker looks too early to use for a 1937 model, it's more like what a 1929-32 model year floor model might use like a model 86, 76, 95, 96, 111 etc.

There was a guy who posted in the wanted section for a H or G style for his model 95. His the paper was gone. I think it was last fall or so. May be able to look him up if you don't need it.
