Philco 60 evolution by Ron - Jimradio - 04-26-2020

I'm starting to restore a philco 60, read through some threads on this and I saw reference to Ron's Evolution of the Philco 60, when I click on on the thread it says it does not exists.

Where can I find this.

Jim

Please post the thread(s) where you were finding dead links to the Evolution of the Philco 60 page so that I may fix them. Thanks.

I just took a quick at the link posted above and found more cabinet variations than I would ever have expected. I think I may have two of them in rather poor condition.

This radio is a 60MB, on the Bakelite block # 8 it has two caps in it, one should be the .18 from the end terminal of block to ground, there looks like another one from the center terminal to ground, I see two wires on the ground terminal. This radio has the #20 cap block which has five caps in it which means it has the .2 added on run #2. On block #8 there is a strap from the center terminal the the end terminal, so to me it means that what ever cap is in there from center to ground is not needed.
I can't find this on any schematic? I have not taken this #8 out yet.
What do you guy's think.

RE: Philco 60 evolution by Ron - KCMike - 04-26-2020

I think the # 8 cap is 2 caps in parallel 0.09 to come up with .18 value.

Great, thanks did not think of that. Love this forum.

In this radio is a capacitor block #20 with five cap's in it. How did you guy's deal with this. replace it with a strip, or stuff the original box with the new cap's.
Interesting to know how you did it.

I prefer to keep the underside of the chassis looking as original as possible so, all the bakelite blocks and the metal boxes get re-stuffed.

+1 on what Steve said. Here is a couple pics of a can I did last year. I used 14ga wire to tie the caps to ground but did not get a pic of that.

I like the satisfaction of making it look original.  I restuffed this Aerovox can in the Philco 514 I restored then I replaced the label with a replica I created with a photo of the original.

Thanks guy's great ideas. Food for thought.

Here’s the point in my 60MB restore where I restuffed the can:
