I feel your pain. I really do. This is how I felt after my attempts at getting my Philco 604 up and running failed.

It is now on a "punishment shelf". Icon_wink

And then I tackled a 37-670 and it turned out fine.

Go figure.

These things happen. You will figure it out eventually. I know I will figure out that 604 eventually, also. Icon_thumbup

Eric,

You might be chasing two problems here.
First, you might have an intermittent connection in your oscillator circuit.  Initially, you could only receive 720, but after seemingly no changes, it was 'locked' to your sstran at 1500.
Second, something is causing the oscillator to not vary its frequency with dial changes.

Things I would check.
Does your loop antenna have continuity?  Is it correctly hooked up?
Same for the oscillator coil.  Continuity on the different turns?  Connected up right?
Is there anything connected in the oscillator circuit that shouldn't be there?  Solder blob shorting something, or mistake from a prior rework?

Good luck,
Jon
