GE 7- 2885 Portable
#1

I have bot this off the bay the AM is damaged someway, it should rock on AM and it is very weak. I complained and seller told me to keep and I got credit.

On these "modern" sets any ideas on what could be issue?

It plays great on FM.

I'm not sure what could go wrong in these radios myself. Usually they are either alive or totally dead. Could be alignment, capacitors, cold solder joints (being portable does mean occasional jolts), or bad resistors. I have the later model of one of these from about 10 years ago and it is a good performer.

No matter where you go, there you are.

I have had two issues on the Superadio I and II. By far the most common is that the AM RF amp transistor will fail. Easy to check for this... If you look at your tuner, you'll see that one lead from the antenna goes straight to one tuner section. Locate the larger of the other two sections and touch a screwdriver to that connection. If the radio gets louder, than the RF amp is your problem.

Thks for the feedback, we will see if we can get some AM here.
