RON'S RADIO REPAIR SERVICE

MY SERVICES OFFERED

Ron Ramirez is a name you can trust. I have 33 years' experience in antique radio. I am happy to give references if desired.

I am centrally located in Evansville, Indiana, USA, and I accept shipments of radios from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

HERE'S WHAT I DO:

I treat every set as if it were my own. This is why my repair work can take some time to complete - I do not rush sets out the door! I want you to be pleased with your radio, and I do not release a set until it meets my satisfaction.

Although Philco home radios made before 1952 are my specialty, I also repair ALL makes and models of pre-WWII home radios - not just Philco!

I offer a great guarantee - a FOUR YEAR limited warranty! Most other restorers only stand behind their work for 90 days. I warrant my labor for one full year and most new parts for four full years! (Some limitations apply. Please read my Service Policy.)

FREE ESTIMATES ALWAYS! Just contact me and let me know what kind of set you have needing restoration. I will be happy to furnish you with a quote.

NO DOWN PAYMENT is required for electronic (chassis) restoration. The only exceptions to this rule are Philco sets made between 1939 and 1942 or radios made by other manufacturers using rubber-covered wiring under the chassis (see the 1939-1942 Philcos page for more details about this).

PLEASE NOTE: Sorry, but I do not offer cabinet refinishing services.

Among the many services performed on each radio I restore:

All paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced

To give your vintage radio RELIABILITY which you can count on.

Original electrolytic can capacitors left in place on top of the chassis (where applicable)

So that your set retains that original look.

Off-tolerance resistors replaced

If the original resistors are 20% or more off-tolerance, they are replaced with new units for best performance.

All tubes tested and replaced only if needed

Surprisingly, the tubes in a vintage radio are often still in good condition. They are replaced only if they do not test up to proper specifications on a mutual conductance tube tester (the best type of tube tester).

New cloth-covered AC cord installed (when applicable)

If your vintage radio used cloth-covered AC cord (and most sets manufactured prior to 1937 did), I use new reproduction cloth-covered cord to replace your old line cord for both appearance and safety.

Switches, controls and tube sockets cleaned & lubricated

This ensures quiet, noise-free and trouble-free operation.

Chassis is completely balanced

An unbalanced or incorrectly balanced radio will suffer from a lack of sensitivity and poor selectivity. I properly balance (align) each receiver I restore to ensure the best possible performance.

WHAT WE DO NOT DO:

I will no longer repair Philco Models 41-250, 41-255, 41-280, 41-285, 41-287, 41-290 or 41-296. These Philco Models simply take too long to properly restore, due to the large amount of rubber-covered wiring used in them. To properly work on these models, it involves disassembling the band switch to get at all of the rubber insulation. I decided that I was going to have to either raise my prices substantially on these seven Philco models, or stop fixing them altogether. I have chosen the latter. PLEASE NOTE that I will CONTINUE to restore all other 1939-1942 Philco Models! My apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

I do not clean rusted chassis unless you specify you want this done (see Near-Museum Quality Restoration below). I DO remove dust and grime as part of my work, but if you want rust removed, you MUST let me know in advance.

I do not rush a set out the door BEFORE it has been thoroughly tested, played for several hours (often for several days), and meets my quality standards.

I will not pull an original chassis out of a set and replace it with a modern AM-FM solid-state receiver.

I do not refinish cabinets. You will need to find someone else to perform this work if needed.

I do not give or sell your E-mail address, snail mail address or telephone number to anyone else.

OPTIONAL SERVICES

Near-Museum-Quality Restoration

In addition to my regular chassis services, I can also remove as many of the parts from the chassis as possible, prepare and spray paint the chassis, repaint the power transformer black, and reassemble.

I can paint Philco chassis the proper flat gray "galvanized" color for proper appearance. I have performed this work for many customers, who have been very pleased with the results.

PLEASE NOTE: I do NOT clean up rusty chassis unless you ASK me to do so. There is an extra charge for cleaning and repainting a chassis that is heavily rusted; such work is considered a Near-Museum Quality Restoration as the same amount of work goes into doing this.

This optional service is available at extra cost. Contact me for more information.

Coil Rewinding Service

Available for most Philco sets made before 1936. I will rewind the bad winding on your Philco RF, antenna or oscillator coil for only $20 postpaid. Learn more about this service.
