RE: Starting on Ron's AK10-A - morzh - 03-28-2026

Started soldering the "PCB" back together.
It could be simple or it could be as complicated as one makes it, and I am not in the habit of choosing easy roads to success. I am a man from Russia after all.

So. I obviously do not want smear the board with rosin residue; plus the rosin is corrosive ...wait, am I writing poetry here or what?
I need to rhyme it with "explosive."

Anywho, so I do this:

I take some aluminum foil and put it under the wires to be soldered.
Oh....and I have to hold the wires together, which is a tall order, considering using my bare hands means burnt fingertips.
I use a bamboo skewer or a piece of wood to press down on one wire (the other is in place). Prior to it I have to scrape the wires as they are really oxidized and do not take the solder well even with rosin core.

The result is like this:

And then the original stape goes in.

Above the new solder is the old one. It will do.

But it takes time. The next joint had two thick wires and a magnet wire from the coil. I kinda wished I had a 3rd hand. But then I thought, such a useful deformity would make me look way more hideous than I am now, and for a few solder joints...so I stopped wishing, as, you know, sometimes wishes do come true. When you stopped wishing. You know.  You wake up in the morning, and scratch your butt, and then you see that your two hands (those growing from the right places) are under your pillow. And the butt is being scratched by something else.
And then you remember that yesterday you solder an Atwater Kent...

Hello Mike,
No, it would make me look way more hideous. No matter of fact, you could become some new Marvel Disney crime fighter, solving all the world’s problems with three arms instead of two!
sincerely Richard

There was an old man who is Russian,
Who soldered his AK using resin.
The wire was corroded,
The resin exploded,
And his AK ended up in Prussia.

There was an old man with an AK.
But his mind wasn't always OK.
He went to his shop,
And there was a loud pop.
He reached for the wrong AK.

I love a limerick. Yours is better than mine. Always liked Ogden Nash. "Behold the pelican, his beak holds more than his belly can."

RE: Starting on Ron's AK10-A - morzh - 03-29-2026

Long while ago when Russia wasn't as heinous as it is today and I spent time at one guestbook where I knew some people, we had a limerick competition in Russian.
It was fun.

One of my favorite Limericks is the one by Vonnegut from "Slotterhouse 5":

There was a young man from Stamboul,
Who soliloquized thus to his tool:
'You took all my wealth
And you ruined my health,
And now you won't pee, you old fool.'

We could ask Paul about the redhead from Nantucket.

I have a friend her dad has a T Shirt " I am the man from Nantucket" his wife no happy about it. I have quite a few sets, I have no AK's. I really should start to look for one. I have been to where his cottage was in Maine. More like a mansion.

I should get that T-shirt.

And then ask people, which version they think of.

@*&^)(^&(%_+Morzh, I almost ruined a brand new computer spitting my coke on it laughing at the Limericks!!!

Try holding the 2 wires together with alligator clips or a pair of hemostats. Looks like you are heading own the home stretch. Hopefully the light at the end of the tunnel is the glow of 01As accompanied by sound!

hello mr fixxr,
I almost did the same thing the other day Mike got me rolling so hard I also spit up my food !!
Sincerely richard

Whatever you do with your food and drink while laughing, don't let it go through your nose.
Hurts like a b**ch.

MrFixr,

No, hemostats and alligators cannot be used for that as they act as heat-sinks. This is why I use pieces of wood.
Another thing, I am using the same wires, and they are cut to size, so it is not like I can lift them off the board enough to use any clip, like a wooden clothes-pin.
Oh, well, it is a labor of love.

And this is what my cats think of me, of AK10A, global warming and limericks.

Hello Mike,
I love your 3 little helpers !!

Yep. That is form yesterday evening.

Mom is in the middle, the daughter is in front and the son is in the back. He is the only one who assumes these types of poses.

ARBE III delayed.

I ordered it on Jan 7th this year, so it is pretty much has been close to 3 months.
I went to the website and saw Pat's name and "Under new ownership, Pat Nolan."
So today I decided to give Antique Radios, who make ARBE III a call.
Pat picked up. We spoke.
Obviously, Dave is not fast as he used to be. So, Pat advised me to go and get a refund from PayPal.
Then he suggested to wait and he would try to talk to Dave tonight and see if there are any ready units.

In case I get a refund, I could then re-order it from Pat and he would ship it the next day.
