91 year old Marconi console -
Dan Walker - 02-17-2026
I just picked up this Marconi model 54 in very good condition.
It is now 91 years old.
It had not been messed with so it should be fairly easy to recap.
Last year I was given the chassis of the same model, so I have a parts chassis.
The cabinet just need to be cleaned, and the original finish is very good.
I can't wait to get to it.

Day;
That looks like a good candidate for restuffing the capacitors, it also looks quite heavy.

I finally got this radio recapped.It was pretty straightforward, but I had to wait for a supply of caps.
It plays very good.Now I have to wait until it get warmer to put it back in the cabinet.

It finally got warmer here in Calgary, so I put the chassis back in the cabinet.
It always take a lot longer to put it back than taking it out.
It plays very good and i do like the cabinet
Here it is all done.

beautiful radio.
I hope it has a place inside the house, not in some shed or garage?

Nice Job!! Interesting that Britain is listed as British Empire on the dial. But this is 1935 before India, Israel and others became independent of Great Britain. This is why we create "living history" when we restore these articles. I have a Ricoh "Rocohflex" camera that was made in "Occupied Japan".
