Trying to restore Predicta Channel Knob...
#1

I now have a few Predicta knobs, but all 3 have the Brass/Gold worn off the channel knob. What have you guys used to get the knob to look right. I'm really only looking to paint where you would grab it. The numbers are fine.

I think you mean the flat "bar" that you grip to change channels. I'm not sure what exactly Philce used on the Predicta metal parts to give them a brass look. If it's real brass plate, it's really thin. I've seen some guys have the CRT tubular arms and base commercially replated and they look awesome, but that's expensive.

I've been thinking about giving gold tinted lacquer a try. The trick is going to be getting the base metal polished and very clean. Any contamination like fingerprints is going to show or cause it to not adhere well.

Bob;
 If you find out who makes this gold tinted lacquer I would like to know, I have a foil dial or two that used something similar and the gold came off at some point,it is obviously like a tinted lacquer or shellac, not like gold paint as it has no flakes in it. I thought about using tinted glass paint, the kind you use to make faux stained glass, but I haven't been able to find any in a yellow colour.
