Museum of Radio & Technology
#1

In June I was able to visit the Museum of Radio & Technology in Huntington WV. (Facebook Link)  I stopped in just about lunch time and met Dave, Charlie and Bill.  They invited me to sit and chat and we had a great conversation about radios, technology, chemistry and the museum.

If you are in the area its well worth the stop.  They have great collections of early radios, early phonographs, pre and post war radios, military radios, early TV broadcasting technology and even a collection of Gilbert chemistry, toolkit, lincoln logs and erector sets.

Since this is the Philco Home section, I'll focus on the some of the Philcos they had on display.  Their pride and joy was the 38-690 that was in original condition.

There are many others:

Also a pretty complete radio repair shop:

Cool place, Bob!
They actually have 38-690!

Are any radios in operating condition or do they keep them the way they found them?

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Some operate and some are as found.  They said they wished I lived closer, they can use more folks restoring radios.  People stop by and drop off old radios as donations to the museum.  Some they keep and some go to their swap meet/flea market to help fund the museum.

The building used to be a school and they have a very nice display that highlights the history of the schools students and teachers.  There is an audio of some of them remembering the school.
