Knobs!
#1

Hi, I'm restoring a Model 38-8 (thread below).

One knob from the set I have for this radio has no little inner metal thingy, which holds it onto the shaft (there was, however, some lovely masking tape inside the knob, when I discovered this).

What I need is somewhere to look for a source for cheap surplus knobs, from which I can steal such a little metal tab. Did I mention, "cheap"? Icon_wink

Thanks in advance!

If you have an old box of fuses, the thin metal used for the box can be used to make a makeshift spacer for your knob. You'll have to cut and fold to fit the slot inside the knob, and there will not be any spring action, but it is better than tape.

Heard this from an old timer long ago, and actually, it works.
Find an old wind up alarm clock which nobody wants anmore, take the main (winding) spring out, and cut a little piece of it off. Bend it slightly and fit to replace the missing piece in the knob. You can adjust the tension so you can get the knob on and off normally.

Thanks, all! Will give the fuse box method a try (because I haven't seen a non-working wind-up alarm clock... um, ever! Icon_eek )

Try going to your local building supply and ask for a piece of scrap banding material used to band units of lumber together.
