46-1201 Cabinet Covering
#1

Is there a source for the wood grain covering material used on the exterior of these sets? The one that I have really needs the covering replaced.

The grain look on that model was what is known as a "Photo finish" which is a paper like finish with the grain applied to it.
Models with photo finish are listed in this thread: https://philcoradio.com/library/index.ph...otofinish/

There is a DIY tutorial for photo finishes here: https://philcoradio.com/schooley/
I've used those techniques but never on something with so many curved surfaces as the 1201. I'm sure others will have some thoughts.

Hello Bill,
Replacing the photofinish is fairly easy on these. I did a similar lamp radio a few years ago. All you need to do is find the veneer you want to use and print it on a good printer. Then just use adhesive and attach it. Last is to tone or clear as you would any radio.

The most important thing is to find a proper veneer "photo". I used google to search for a nice walnut grain.

Message me if you need any help. I have restored 4 or 5 of these 1201's so I know what you will need to get it done.
