Zenith IF cans Finish
#1

I am presently restoring a Zenith 5S127 and would like to know what the finish was on the IF and OSC cans. It seems like its been painted some semi-mat grey, but then again when looking at it from the insides it almost seems like oxydized lead ! ( instead of the more usual aluminium )
Regards,
Daniel

I have two 5-S-150 radios awaiting restoration, both appear to have a plain finish on the aluminum cans. They have the same 5516 chassis as your 5-S-127. I took the cans off one of them and shone them up with Nevr-Dull and they look pretty respectable now. I don't know how you could tell if there was lead on them .... taste them? LOL

Thanks Dave for the input, I'll go for the painted look.
As for the lead ! if you've ever looked at old vibrators with lead casings, you'll notice that patina look, sort of a deep gray flat mat surface.
Thanks,
Daniel
