Model 53-706
#1

OK, It is time to let you see my favorite radio. I collect only Philco and because of this radio I keep nothing newer than 1953. I believe this is all as it was in the store, even the shade but I have re-stuffed the electrolytic cap's. All working and loved.

Hi All, I have a 53-706 with a non-working radio. All I get is a loud hum. Anyone know where I can take it (or ship it) for repair. I live in High Point, NC 27265. Thanks in advance for any help!

Please do not plug your radio in and turn on until the Ecaps are replaced. Would be a good set to start learning about fixing up old sets. Some info from Beitmans. Good Luck David

Thanks so much for the reply!  Unfortunately, time will not permit me to do any work on this particular project myself.  Does anyone know anyone in my area who repairs old radios (or perhaps any local radio clubs that may be able to help)?

There are some folks in our "Resources" section of the Library (see Radio Repair and Restoration entries) that might be able to help. You can contact them and see if they meet your needs. In addition, there is a Charlotte NC section of the Antique Wireless Association who might have members that could help you.

Thanks for the great ideas!  I’ll be sure and try them out.
