Fun with external loop antennas
#31

BTW, thanks to Brian for all the info. It would have been much more difficult without it. Also, I forgot to mention that my loop is the 25 inch square model.

And oh yes, credit where credit is due. That Silvertone 4586 is Andrea's. Icon_lol She bought it at the MARC swap meet in Lansing last July.

Correct! Being that this is the Philco Phorum, I had to put something Philco in my post. Icon_lol

Only problem I see in that photo. Is that is not a shot of my front room where a 38-690 should be Icon_twisted Icon_surprised Icon_angel

After building my first loop antenna, I discovered two problems. One, I don't have a good place to put it. Two, loop antennas are incompatible with cats (we have two). Searching the Internet I ran across an article about a Hula-Hoop-Loop, so I built one.

[Image: http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae335...4_3390.jpg]

The Hula-Hoop is about 33 inches in diameter. I pulled the hoop apart at the joint looped a four conductor telephone cord through two times. I connected one end of one conductor to the other end of the next conductor and so on to create eight loops. I added single wire loop for the sense loop. As it turns out it wouldn't tune the high end of the band. I removed two turns. Now I'm loosing a little of the low end. As I have time, I will play with this some more.
