    I just completed restoring a model 47-1230, and found the attached paint to be a pretty close match to the original Philco finish used on the record player base. It gives the proper "hammered" look and, though SLIGHTLY darker, worked well! Don't forget to mask off and paint the tone arm as well so everything matches. You can find this paint at any automotive parts chain, like NAPA or Auto Zone.

Here's how the restored phonograph looks:
