Philco TPA-1
#76

OK, motor extracted from the foam rubber goo, ready for microprobing!  looking at rc car motors if this doesn't pan out 24mm series 280? IIRC need to check movie night

TPA-1 Replacement motor? 24mm diameter with 2MM shaft should be perfect with the right torque curve 1/2 the rpm of some others
#78

or maybe this one, ordered one of each while I attempt to dissect the original

tried to retension the brushes but still no continuity, armature looks burned

Just got done replacing C1, .mp3 player sounds pretty decent!  Might keep it on for a while, hope it doesn't need heat sinks on those big 'ol outputs??  Time for the infra-red gun . . maybe better tone with the cabinet closed up . . .

rock & roll!

picked up a second one, and went back and re-read some tips needed for my first, any love left here for TPA-1's?

In all honesty, other than it being rare, it is a fairly crappy player.
Badly made too.

On the other hand, why don't you make your own thread?
This one is Tim's and has been getting older by the day.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

yeah just nostalgia for me as dad gave me one of the amps as a functional toy back ~1956 now i have a second one looking back i have an intermittent on the board of the first, trying to get motivated to clear the bench and lay into it.  yeah its a crappy player i'd like to just have the amp out breadboarding something to just 'watch it work!' lol thx for the reply new thread someday
