What's missing from this cabinet?
#1

I stumbled on this 39-6 searching eBay this morning but something about doesn't look right to me. Should there be a trim piece or something on the dial cutout?

The glass is missing, along with the knobs and grille cloth.

Either the case was striped or it's the wrong case for the chassis.

Here is a 39-6 from Radio Attic gallery: http://radioatticarchives.com/radio.php?radio=2004

Thanks for the link. In the gallery picture it looks like maybe the glass glazing (?) that is darker brown that seems to 'finish' off the dial cutout. Doesn't look like the auction radio has the different veneer inlays either or just a bad refinish job. Wonder if that model came in a painted version and this is the plain wood underneath after stripping...

Take a good look at the photos showing the back of the cabinet. Clearly, the cabinet was originally painted ivory...and later stripped.

The ivory painted 39-6 cabinets should have a metal bezel and dial glass. Walnut 39-6 models only have a plastic dial cover, no metal bezel. So Chuck is right, the dial glass and bezel are missing from this set...
