Rebuilt in the 40s by a Philco Shop?
#16

I am sure Russ did it.
This is the photo of it upon receiving.

Though I wonder why Philco repair shop did not do it, maybe then the leakage was considered negligible and the loss of capacitance was the main concern.
Still a good idea to do it, as with any old elements.

Good catch, but I believe it was one of the caps that incorporates a wire-wound resistor, which are very good quality, and still in the circuit today.

I neglected to post a "after" picture on the chassis - well - partially because I decided to restore it to factory, going against some good advise. Don't blame me, I could not control the urge to stuff Bakelite blocks.

Here it is:

I still have an issue with cap 5 which is a 3615AM. Don't look for it on the chart, it isn't there, but it would seem to be a double .05uf with both caps grounded on pin 0. At this point I am injecting signal at that point with the cap unhooked and all is well. The ant coil is fine, actually has a new primary - 13 turns of #34. I need to check to see if that trimmer cap is shorted/bad. But after hauling the radio UP to the house ~ 50ft up a steep hill, on the loader of our tractor and the old one down. I just did not have enough "steam" left to take it back apart, but you know that is coming.

I'm going to post the "old" one in the classifieds.

morzh, you beat me to the punch, but you are correct. Making it worse, I do not believe that I found ANYTHING wrong with that repair. I wish I could pat them on the back.

I just finished this "before and after" Picture for our slide show. Actually shows the radio "as found".

It was no small job, getting it out of there. The "path" through the "stuff" was only about as wide as the radio after moving a "few" things.

Russ, Is the light coming out from the cabinet a factory light or an add on? I have never seen this radio in person before. You did a beautiful job with it. I would like it in my kitchen also.

It is a factory light. You must remember to remove the light bulb before pulling the chassis out, or you will need a new bulb.
