Age of a P935?
#1

Hello,
newbie here with a quick question...
I've got a Philco P935 radio and need to know what year it was made. According to the Age Guide on the website,
"Philco sets made after 1953 start with a letter instead of the last two digits of the model year, as follows: B- (1954) C- (1955) D- (1956) E- (1957)
F- (1958) G- (1959) H- (1960) J- (1961) "
So does this pattern continue, making P- a 1967 (or 1966 if they didn't use "O" as a prefix)?
It's a very blocky-looking radio, just a rectangular box with a square speaker grill on the left. Says "ALL TRANSISTOR" on the dial. AM/FM.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi

Sorry, I am not familiar with that model. Philco's first transistorized radios, which were portables, had a "T" prefix. Could be that yours dates from the mid-1960s? Especially if the sticker on bottom or back states "Philco-Ford Corp."

If it's a transistor AM/FM portable, it was definitely made after 1961.

It is an AC operated, all transistor, AM-FM table radio made in Asia. "P" indicates 1966 model year, probably made in late 1965 or early 1966. Both "O" and "I" were skipped in the Home Electronics model number scheme.

Thanks to all who replied - I'm glad to get a date assigned to it.
Happy holidays!
