Zenith 7H820 resto
#16

Ron, I'm with you on the way the schematic is drawn. I get a lesdixic Icon_lol when I'm reading it, so I think I'll follow your advice and pull the Sams. No worries about me, Mr Fixer, I'm quite familar with the hot chassis on these and TVs. I always power off an isolation transformer. Believe me, I tested the theory back when I was a youth! I'd have to get clever and change plugs or something to get the polarity correct. +1 on changing the switch to hot from neutral. Thanks also for the information on the Armstrong system. I had noted the sticker on the back, and also explains why the discriminator was a little different than what I am used to seeing. I never knew just what that sticker meant, but I've noted that Zeniths FM radios, even the old consoles just sounded so much better than the others. I was given a plastic Zenith as a youth, which worked beautifully, still have it, and it probably still works! I had a lady I mowed for that had a Zenith, more like Paul's, but in a baklite cabinet. I was amazed at just how it sounded! It was in their kitchen, daily driver radio! I always wanted that radio, but they passed away when I was in college and got sold or something. That was back in the 80's. I know of a lot of those that got thrown into the trash, even more recently, a client of mine tossed one she had in the garage for years, and I'd asked her a number of times to keep me in mind if she ever wanted to get rid of it, but sadly, Republic ended up with it  Icon_thumbdown - off to the landfill! Was a beautiful, clean old radio!

Paul, I have several versions of the radio you have in your picture, wood cabinets and a couple smaller versions that I hope someday to take 2 and make one.  I have an FM transmitter kit, Ramsey I think, if I ever get it assembled. Still new in the box. Be neat to fire that up someday. But, OH the time!

If I could find the place called "Somewhere", I could find "Anything" Icon_confused

Coincidence! This radio, or one very very similar judging from what I think was that same three band dial appeared briefly in the Peter Gunn story we watched last night (Season 3 Episode 1, "The Passenger").

Cheers

Ed

I don't hold with furniture that talks.
