Rare Philco find but a mystery ?
#1

Sorry for the delay in putting this up have been busy.
Picked this up on Sun. and it is a bit of a mystery?
It is a rare 200x radio, and has a radio spec tag and chassis for a 201x chassis? But It was also pointed out to me that there is also a small tag on it that says 200x?????? It even has the original back cover.

Buy the way it is not for sale, someone very dear to all of us here on this forum is getting.

My opinion: I believe this set is a 201 chassis in a 200X cabinet, and it was done by Philco at the factory. I would guess this set was built at the point of transition from model 200 to 201, and Philco had a few 200 cabinets left over, so out went the first few 201X sets in 200X cabinets.

It wouldn't be the first time Philco had pulled a stunt like this...leaving us scratching our collective heads decades later.

Whoever is getting that set is one lucky fellow and, no doubt, a very happy fellow as well!

Definitely agree!! There are numerous documented cases of this that can be found here in the Phorum.

I have a 38-2650 in a model 37 tombstone cabinet, and also have a 1935 model 16X with a five-band '34 model chassis.
