Philco Deluuxe 95 B+ block rebuild
#1

I have rebuilt Philco bakelite blocks before but this on this model 95 it appears the B+ block is a giant bakelite block with a metal case instead of bakelite. Is this the case and if I remove the metal cover it will be one block of tar mess?? Second question this has some funky looking caps, is it possible to drill out the middle of these early caps (killing the cap) and putting a regular cap in the middle and seal it up with wax and soldering the leads to the the existing terminals? Stude,

Cleaning out the metal cam caps is as easy as the bakelite blocks. Just heat it up enough to pull ALL the guts out and re-stuff accordingly. There is usually a common wire to the inside of the metal case you need to be aware of, depending on the can's wiring. See the bakelite block re-building page on my site.

http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/phot...9633uxVbdV As you can see the chassis is in good condition without a lot of corrosion so I wanted to keep it as close to original as possible. The audio PP tranformer has been replaced with a modern version but I have a model 96 so I will check if the part numbers are the same for the one on the model 96 and swap it onto this one and put this modern one on the model 96, (more of a basket case) along with the original type cap that was replaced when the transformer was replaced.
