In languages, everything said or written is understood in the context of the topic.
So if one little mistake makes one rise up and yell at you, this person is simply intentionally being nasty in 99% of the cases.
Many Russian/Ukrainian speaking folks cannot differentiate between short/long "i" sound, and the words "s**t" and "sheet" are pronounced the same by them, as well as heard.
But it would take a complete malevolent idiot to think that the housemaid, who said "I will put a s**t on your bed", actually meant crapping on it.
We had a joke back in the USSR about "cut sheet feeders" of the foreign-made printers.
Same about the sounds in "blood", "are", "gun", "tongue": they all sound the same to most Russians and will be pronounced the same way.
Hence "can't" and "cu**t" will sound the same.
Same goes about us Americans speaking Spanish and such.
What I liked about being in the US when I came, there were VERY few people who would refuse to understand me. They sould work with me, sometimes correcting my speech. Which helped a lot.
Context is everything. As well as friendliness.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
