Philco 71 K-7 Speaker Repair
#1

This speaker was purchased along with the set on eBay as a working Philco 71B. It did not reproduce full sound and had little distortion. I removed the speaker from the cabinet and found the damage.  I have attached three photos and asking for assistance with possible repair. It appears that the voice coil is intact. Is there a way to 1) repair/replace the spider, 2) repair the torn cone material around the spider ? I welcome any suggestions.

I had a speaker almost as bad as that so I reconed it. I was able to attach a new cone to the spider. There should be a bolt holding the spider in. Is your missing? You will need that or the cone will not stay in the core. I see the speaker is like my 91 where there is a ring around the outside edge that comes off allowing removal of the cone after you unsolder the voice coil wire from the transformer. The cone I used had an inner diameter smaller than the spider so I carefully cut the hole bigger and then glued the cone to the spider. The ring holds the cone so no glue is necessary on the outer diameter.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Dan
