Thanks Ron for your "Notes on Model 116"
#1

Thanks Ron, I've just run into one of these beasts. It's a 116B I picked up at the last Estes auction. It has the changes you describe (http://philcoradio.com/phorum/showthread.php?tid=14957)with one additional twist. It has the unusual resistor leading from the volume control like the earlier version. What would the purpose of this resistor be? This is going to be a very nice radio.

Hi Steve

You must mean resistor (67). I honestly do not see any purpose for that resistor, unless the design engineers thought the audio gain was going to be too high going into the first audio amp (Type 77). The resistor was (wisely) removed in later models.

Interesting how your set has the AVC circuit changes yet retains the odd extra resistor in the volume control circuit. Another one of Philco's Phamous running changes...
