Coronado/Wells gardner
#1

Well,I finished up the Coronado with the Wells Gardner model 2CM radio.
Has 12 tubes and 2, 12 inch speakers.
Fairly easy chassis to work on, and well built.
Sounds as good as it looks.

Be careful about the length of the dial bulbs, some of those celluloid dials can get burn marks from using dial lamps that are are too long or too high of a Wattage, I saw an Airline once that had this problem. You would want to use the bulbs with the globe shaped envelop rather then the usual cylindrical kind. Of course if you want to really play it safe use some LED substitutes, they have drop in ones now that require no modification, they run cold and almost never burn out. Wells Gardner made some really decent sets, and oddly enough they seemed to have used a better quality chrome plating then most Scotts did on the chassis.

Have a dumb question regarding the 2cm.
I have 2 of these now, and they both have a loose metal sheet just floating around under the chassis.
Not screwed down at all.
Anyone know what purpose this metal plate would serve?
Thanks for the thumbs up guy's.

Served as a shield. Especially is the bottom of the chassis was open.

There is probably a cable/connector to attach to the chassis.

OR it could be a previous owner mod.
