Philco 513 chassis pics
#1

Hey everyone,
Just a few pictures of my 513 chassis I took tonight. I am getting ready to put it back in the cabinet. I aligned it and neutralized it and it sounds pretty good. It's pretty sensitive too, I was getting my Sstran 3000 and some local stations without even using an antenna. The funny thing is that the volume control doesn't seem to do much. It is working as I noticed a volume change when setting up my signal generator, but when pulling in stations there isn't much difference between low and high. There is a quite a change when using the range selector control though. This design does have a funny way of controlling the volume, it's right off the antenna, something I've never seen before. Also the construction of the volume control is new to me as well.
So, right now I'm waiting for a new speaker and matching transformer so I can replace the non working guts of my matching speaker. I'm going to keep the old unit and install it into an empty 211 speaker shell I have just to keep it safe.

A chassis full of globe tubes, a work of art!

That's how it was when I bought it. Complete set of globe shaped Cunningham tubes! My guess is that they are the originals. The 80 rectifier tested weak so I replaced it with another Cunningham 280 Globe tube, and one 226 tube had its filament burn out while I was testing it. I have a correct globe tube in there for now until I can find another Cunningham 226, otherwise all the other tubes are the same and tested very good. I don't think this set saw a whole lot of use, as up until me it never had any service work done to it. I felt kind of funny restoring it but after hearing it play, I'm glad I did. This is now the oldest working radio in my collection and apart from finding a lower serial number unit it is my oldest Philco.

If you need a Cunningham globe 226 I have lots, drop me PM if interested.
