Philco 38-10 Bakelite Condenser Rebuild
#1

I want to rebuild the bakelite condender on a Philco 38-10. There is only one and it is where the AC comes in. The caps are rated at .015 each. Since these caps will only see AC do I need to buy AC rated caps? Would .015 at 630VDC work?  Thanks

Welcome to the Phorum!!

You want 0.015uF Y2 safety capacitors.  I get mine from Just Radios and I believe Mouser has them as well.  I usually buy the 250 v rating.

Here's some info on safety caps

Here's a tutorial on getting the bakelite block stuffed.

Thank you very much for the information. I just ordered them from Just Radios, along with some other caps I needed.

Actually that tutorial rebuilds exactly that, the line filter cap (from 111 Philco). Parts are similar, mine was 3793-E and yours is 3793-DG.
You can use 10nF or 15nF, for this purpose no difference. As long as they are Y-rated.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
