Question on 221 Console Speaker Table
#1

I'm new to this forum, thanks for inviting me in. I have 17 Philcos of assorted models and years in my collection.

Here is my first question. I have a Philco model 221Console Grand speaker table I purchased a while back and I am working on restoring it as the antique store I bought it from found it in a barn and decided to faux finish it in a sick yellow color. it has all the original hardware as far as I can tell and is structurally sound but I am puzzled as to the speaker element itself. Was there originally a speaker mounted in the cabinet or do you set a 211 speaker inside of it as there is no hardware or screw holes to tell me where to mount a speaker. Can anyone tell me what type speaker it had or would have picture of the inside that shows how to mount it?

Thanks.

Hi Gary - Welcome!

The Philco 221 Console Grand Speaker table really is a speaker. Here it is in the gallery:
http://philcoradio.com/gallery2/1928a/#M...sole_Grand

Quote:It combined a table large enough to hold one of the 511 series table model sets with a built-in speaker of the same type used in the console models and the small metal-enclosed speaker units.

We don't have it associated with the 221 model number - but I do see that number referenced on the TubeRadioLand 511 page.

Here's a picture of what appears to be the correct insides from a previous item on the RadioAttic:

Thanks Nathan. This is exactly what I was looking for. I can now look mine over and see if I can find the original mounting holes now that I have an idea where to look.
