Early 20 at our local swap meet
#1

Ok so what is so special about it?

3 people were going on about the difference from the later 20 console.
It ended up selling for around $200.00.

This is as much a 20 as I am Frank Sinatra.

Isn't that the 87 from Quakertown we saw here another day?

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

^ What Mike said. That isn't a 20, it's an 87.

This type chassis with its very characteristic look was used in those radios that came before 20, including their first superhet, the 111/112.
The 20 had smaller chassis that was the first Baby-grand and would fit in a cathedral tabletop. The previous one would not; the only tabletop it would fit into was a 511.

Let alone the fact that the dial in all of these was the rotating cylinder with the surface facing the operator and so the numbers moved up-down, while in the 20 it was a circular sector type and the numbers moved left-right.

Another tell-tell sign also is the tube shield.
And, of course, the face with the knobs widely spaced in the 85 and such, vs the small triangle in the 20.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

If someone paid $200 for that model 87 they obviously didn't get out much, they should have gone for a highboy cabinet version at least.
