Rubber covered wire
#16

When I replace components I cut the leads to size or extend them if need be, then slip on the heat shrink and then use a lighter or candle to get the tubing to shrink. That way I'm all set to replace the old one without risk of burning something else up in the set.

The lowly candle can also loosen up the wax on old tubular capacitors if you are inclined to stuff them with modern components. And a little paint thinner will usually clean off the crud on the outside of the paper cylinder, and finally you can melt a little beeswax to full up the tube. Then it would take an Xray to reveal what you have done.

Whatever works for you, yes?

No pun intended, right? Icon_wink Oh, wait, you said Xray, not Exray. Icon_smile

Exray would look at the cap leads and notice that they were smaller. Uh, well not always. I once revisited a project radio that I had partially restuffed and put aside and found myself going after the NEW caps Icon_smile
