Thought I would post a separate subject for the pictures of this radio and what little I have found out about it so far. Yeah, it's orange, but seeing the cleaned up rust and where the paint has peeled around the speaker inside the cabinet, I have a feeling this thing was rather rusty when found. Luckily, the chassis appears rather clean.

Ok, I found a couple references on the other forum that these were supposedly developed for the military as a rugged troop radio, but the war ended the contract was cancelled. I guess several units were already produced, so they were sold to the public. If you have one with the handle, the hammertone finish, and the components were wax coated under the chassis, it is supposed to be one of the units originally intended for military service. Well, mine seems to tick all those boxes. The handle is there, it was hammertone finish and some of that is still there, and it seems what few undisturbed components and wiring I can see under the chassis is wax coated.

So, I guess this was intended as a 'Morale Radio' and I must admit, it was worth the $30 I spent on it. Really seems to be a good radio and definitely is not going to get hurt easily. Now, if I could only find a complete Minerva Tropic Master to go with it. I've seen some parts ones of those over the years and think they are neat too. Icon_smile

Nice eye candy, but they are on drugs on the price! Even eBay can't get near that price out of them. There used to be one buried in a junky antique mall near me until at least last month. I could see the radio, but literally could not get to it!

In fairness to Joe, he found that, bought it, spent a lot of time restoring it, he does A#1 work, new wiring, all caps, extra clean, he is the real deal. He may be one of the best techs I know. So while price is high for us guys, for the Attic it is probably OK.

We want to buy and do our own work, though maybe not all the time. Joe is OK.  Icon_wink

But I hearze ya' Jayce.  Icon_smile
