1948 Victrola 77U (with Phonograph)
#1

I just aquired the above unit, Recapped it and got her all cleaned up. Radio working great, turn table works and all mechanics are doing what they should. My problem is I am not getting any sound from the needle, and all wires are intact. Has anyone here had any experience with these units?

As with any player with a crystal pickup, the cartridge will be dead. You'll need to find someone who can open the pickup case, and put a crystal element in place of the dead one. These elements are gotten from newer "donor" pickup cartridges.

I understand that it isn't vary hard; just tricky, but by doing that, you can have the set back in operation once again.

Thanks Doug, I was afraid of that. I will just restore everything and leave that until I can find one. There are absolutely NO resources on the internet for this particular radio at all.

There is a thread here on the Phorum which shows you how to rebuild your own crystal cartridge.
