Need advice in removing Philco 37-116 Oscillator section from RF Unit
#1

Hello, I'm currently restoring a spare Philco 37-116 chassis and need advice on removing the oscillator section on the RF unit (I have removed the Ant. & RF sections in the past in other Philcos for recapping without any issue). My Range 2 coil in my good 37-116 was fine and I didn't need to remove the oscillator section in that one. My spare 37-116 has a bad secondary winding on the Range 2 oscillator coil and I need to remove the coil to rewind it. I want to avoid removing the RF unit if at all possible as it is a pain to do and risk damaging the cloth covered wiring. There are a lot of connections & components connecting the wafers of the oscillator section to the RF unit sub-base.  Thanks,  Ken

Unfortunately you have no choice but to remove the RF unit, and then it will be pretty clear to see how the oscillator section can be removed - it involves unsoldering wires from the tuning condenser plus removing a couple bolts in the front of the RF unit.

You can go to my blog site:

https://ronsradios.com/

and look at the first several of the series of postings entitled "Philco model 38-690 Repairs" to see how a 37-116 RF unit comes apart. I completely rebuilt a 37-116 RF unit in that series, only to have it develop...a carbon track. I then rebuilt the 38-690 RF unit that was in the radio. I have yet to try it out.
