Philco 84b confusion
#16

The info I got says: 36 AWG wire/14.75 turns/lug 3 to ground/wind from top CC.
Looking for 2 ohms & 3.2 ohms. Does that sound right?
#17

Sound good. Nowhere near 101 ohms.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.
Circa 1966
Now I think I've got!

Having been involved with steam locomotive restoration as well as radio refurbishment, radio is definitely the less taxing of the two. The common thread is that of returning something old to usefulness, while employing skills that are in danger of being forgotten. There’s a lot of satisfaction to be derived!

Rob, apologies, I forgot to comment in my last post how nice a condition that chassis is in and how nice your work looks. The spiral wrap around "in air" connections is a very nice touch!

Thanks! My wife found the spiral wrap. It works very well when covering wire that’s been soldered between parts.

Hi Guys- The 38 AWG wire came today so I’m (hopefully) back at the Philco 84. Are the transformer primaries (oscillator and antenna) wound in the same direction or the opposite direction from the secondaries? Inquiring minds………..  Thanks! - Rob

Hello Rob,
good news!

Eureka! Got the radio up and running. Still have to do an alignment and check some voltages. Thanks again for the help. It wouldn’t have happened without you! - Rob
P.S.- Antenna suggestions?
#26

Hi Rob,

There's a thread from some time ago where members volunteered their successes on conventional and non-conventional antennae. I'm sure you can find it with a search. It is quite extensive.

Thanks Guys- I’ll play around with the different antennas and see how they perform. Yet another area for exploration! - Rob
