My Philco 37-116
#1

Well it’s finally done. Drove 6 hours round trip 11 years ago to Maryland for this radio. Did the electronics 10 years ago but kept procrastinating on refinishing the cabinet as it’s not my favorite thing to do at all. So this will probably be the last floor model I will be buying just because cabinet refinishing is a long tedious job and we only have room for one!

Very well done, Ron! Looks like we crossed the finish line at the same time with our two console restorations. You’ve got an operable radio, though, and I do not. Now it’s my turn to restore the chassis.

Great radio, Ron.
Enjoy!

It is barely not the same as 37-690. Same speaker, and the tweeters in the 690 could be barely heard due to.the crossover value.
Same bands, same mag tuning.

I have it, it is good.

Thanks guys for the compliments. There are some things I would have done differently looking back on it now but I’m happy with it. I would love to crank it up once and make that 14” speaker thump but I live in a half of a double!

Awesome looking set!!  Also, if you get rid of that couch I see in the picture you could fit at least another three to four consols.   Icon_cool

Also from the picture it is not clear, if it is a chair or a couch. A chair would only free space for just one radio.

As for me, I have cats. Unfortunately, cats and radios don't mix (unless it is a 1000-Z and the cat is made of stone), and this is why my radios are in the basement and the cats are in the rest if the house. Mice recently used it to their advantage.

My dachshund loves to sit in my chair and listen to my 49-906 on the days when I work from home. Just as soon as he hears the click of the power knob, he comes running in to jump on my lap.

I'll bet the dog hears something you don't.

Dogs are very perceptive animals, and in many ways a reflection of their master. It must sense that turning on the radio also offers him the chance to enjoy not only music but also time together with his master in the chair. Kudos ... you both appreciate Philco radios! I had a 37-116 that I sold along, but I still miss it.

Great job on a fabulous set!
