X1/Y2 safety caps
#1

This appears to call for an X2 safety cap. My issue is the size for an .01uf cap makes it hard to fix two larger X2 caps inside the 3903dg bakelite box.
Would these disc caps be acceptable or do I need to use the larger X2 caps - the boxy yellow ones.

Your circuit does not call for X-cap. It calls for two Y-caps.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

But isn’t this x1/y2 cap I included a pic of the equivalent of a y2 cap?
I always thought they sold the x1/y2 disc caps as a smaller alternative.
I usually use the Y2 caps but I happened to be out of them. No big deal to order more - although there’s a 20 percent tariff now. Sigh…

Use the blue disc x1y2 cap. It means you can use it for either x1 or y2.

Hello bridkarl ,
They do sell them in smaller package it's made by Vishay it's both X and Y rated part no. VY2103M59Y5VS63V0 they are .5 inches in diameter .
I bought 100 of them from mouser electronics and paid about 30 cents each .

Sincerely Richard

That blue X1Y2 cap you have pictured is exactly what I use, they fit in the Bakelite block just fine!

I just ordered 100 from
Mouser. These were 18.3 cents each but Mouser added a $10.30 tariff charge so it works out to 28.7 cents each before shipping.

Now you have to acquire 50 radios to put those caps in.

My wife thinks I have 50 already.
