Mystery Control Dial Warping: Can it be corrected?
#1

I recently obtained a Mystery Control on FleaBay for $20 and it is in pretty good shape, other than the dial is moderately warped (about 3mm out of true) and it drags on the trim ring. Is there any ultra-spiffy way (or even better, a simple way) to correct the warping? Catalin is such fun... Icon_biggrin

Also, does anyone happen to know the correct size and thickness of the eight rubber washers that hold the rotary dial mechanism in position beneath the square brass nuts? These have, quite naturally, turned to stone (and in any case, I'm missing one of the square nuts and two washers).

(As an aside, I hope someday to obtain a radio that responds to this marvel of modern technology, but even if I don't it's one heck of a conversation piece on my coffee table!)

Check Out Chuck Schwarks Philco repair bench site. He has step by step instructions on how to fix a warped control. You can find the site listed in the parts resources page on this site. Good luck!

Thanks, Ron! I knew I'd seen it somewhere.

I've been trying to explain the Mystery Control to my colleagues at work. Needless to say, I've been greeted with skepticism. I'm going to have to bring my trusty copy of "Philco Radio 1928-1942" with the copious illustrations to prove it... Icon_wink
