The type of Restor-a-Finish to use on AK10-A
#1

I asked the same question in the main thread, but I thought it could be separate. No matter how you slice it, it is, in a way, a cabinet.

So, if I am to use Howard Restor-A-Finish on the AK10A baseboard, what ti nt should it be?

I guess between Walnut, Dark Walnut and Mahogany.

Looks like Dark Walnut to me.

Hey Bob,

Thanks.

I guess, I have to enhance the question: it does look like dark walnut. But under the amp, where it still looks pristine, it has some pronounced reddish hue. So, could the original color be mahogany?Could be seen here on the photo.

Mike;
I can't speak for the model 10's board, but the model 20C had what looks like a mahogany box, and from the photo it looks like that's what the breadboard was made from. . Do you think it even needs scratch cover?

If by scratch cover you mean The Howard's Restor-a-Finish...I think it could use some.
It has lots of that crinkling/crazing.
I have just order some 0000 steel wool.

It does not look that bad, but could use a bit of TLC.

Mike;
I would go at the board with some Goop and see how it looks before taking steel wool to the finish, it may just be dirt, wax, oil, tobacco tar, causing the crazed look. If it still looks rough after that then giving it a polish with 0000 could not hurt.

Arran,

What you see on that photo is after Goop.

PS. I went ahead and ordered some buffing microfiber cloth and three different Howards: Dark Walnut and Mahogany for this project, and Neutral just for the heck of it.
