Philco PT-61
#1

I bought one of these this morning. Just because I had never ever seen one. Can anyone tell me anything?
As far as I can tell this is a 1940 model in fairly low numbers 12,000 with no sales records I can find anywhere.Aside from case damage this is complete as far as parts-even the knobs and antenna are there.
Did I get a true rarity?
Now value isn't something I care about in this hobby. In this case - case restoration and refinishing is beyond my skills. I obviously don't want to spend $800 on a $100 radio. Any thought on value on a restored unit so I can estimate whether the expense is reasonable.

Just another pretty face. Does it have Transitone on the dial face? Been through a few battles!

yes. It has "Philco Transitone" on the dial. Sounds like it might be a good candidate for me learning some more refinishing/repair techniques than spending on professional attention.
I need to figure out where to find the correct replacement grill cloth.

Keep in mind, these have an asbestos sheet under the chassis.
You do not have to be afraid of it, or even discard it, but be aware and behave respectfully towards it, and it won't harm you.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Yes. I'll just make sure that's carefully removed intact, bagged, and dispose of it.
