Need help identifying old Philco mahogany cabinet.
#1

Today I found this old Philco mahogany cabinet at a thrift store. The model number is 10853-3 can anyone tell me what it is and what year it was made? If you need a better more detailed picture's let me know. thanks.

Michael,
That isn't a good Philco model number.
Pictures will help.

The actual model number will either be on a blue and white paper tag, glued to the inside of the cabinet and visible, or it may be black ink-stamped on the rear of the chassis with also a Code number possibly.

Pictures will help us help you.

10853 is the number of the cabinet itself. Probably later than 1949, I am guessing it would be in the 1950-52 era. Plus, from the looks of the interior, it appears that it was originally a TV-radio-phono combination before being gutted. I do not have any photos or illustrations of any Philco radios or radio-phonographs that match this cabinet.

This cabinet was like the first TV that my family had when I was a kid. We got it in 1956 (was told to be a 1950 model) - it was used and the Philco dealer installed a new picture and installed a tall external antenna all for $100.00. The TV was on the left side and the radio and record changer was on the right side as viewed from the front. When the TV failed I removed the TV and radio part. I installed a newer type changer and amp and my mother used that until she died in 2006. I still have the two doors partly because of the wood and the other because of the many hours of enjoyment that it gave me.
