Philco 71 restoration
#31

Here is a couple pics of the coil rewind in case anyone wants to see what it looks like.

Secondary half removed from coil form. Pay attention to the direction the coil is wound if its wound backwards it will not work (Thanks Terry).

After removing the rest of the wire the secondary was rewound with 32ga magnet wire. I started from the top to the bottom as it was easier.

Another view of the rewound coil. I soldered the ends to the lugs and then applyed Q-Dope to the coil to hold it in place.

Here is a neat video about transformer (coil) phasing. This guy has lots of neat videos about tube radios, and circuits.

Well I got it playing pretty well, then I tore it apart to clean and derust the chassis.

I'm stuck on what to do with the large tube shield that mounts on the side of the chassis. It has a lot of rust on it, and the two paper labels are in really nice condition. I dont want to damage the labels with navel jelly or water durin the cleaning. any ideas how I could tackle this?

Keep up the good work, Keith! You have done a super job resurrecting this set!

I know there is a fellow out there that does repop labels, I have seen them and they are pretty nice! I'll try to find who he is from a buddy who has used them and post it to this thread. That is, if you want to go that way. It will solve your dilemma about de rusting your shield.

Here is a link to an eBay sale this guy has. At the bottom he lists the model Philcos that he makes labels for, and the 71 is listed there.

If you have a flatbed scanner you could make your own labels, even touch up the image where needed.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to try the guy on ebay and see how his labels are. I also need a set for a 60B I just bought.

I made a video slideshow with some pics of the restoration process.

I post this before but I think it was lost in the Phorum move? I couldn't find it. Figured I put it here cause I like bragging Icon_angel
