Philc 41-608 Relocate Cap 51 to under chassis?
#1

Hi,
I'm wondering if it would be a bad idea to relocate this capacitor, #51, which is the input cap from the phono.
Currently it lies on top of the
chassis with the leads going through the mounting rivets of two different
tube sockets. It would be very easy to place it under the chassis.
Where it lies now is a part of the chassis that needs a lot of cleaning
and it would be much easier to pemanently locate in on the underside.

Oops... mabe recheck that info. I recall from a brief look that the one end goes to a connector on back side of chassis that looks like the old auto radio antenna jack. If that is the case maybe this is not the phono input cuz I think that has a seperate 3 wire lead or terminal.. Sorry for the confusion as I'm going from memory.

Anyway, it seems unlikely that moving that cap is going to give any interference or other objectionable results but then I'm not very familiar with their reasons for putting it where it is. BTW.. I think it is a .001 cap.

Thanks much!

Hi

I would clean the chassis as needed, then leave condenser (51) above the chassis, suitably insulated of course with heat shrink tubing or insulating spaghetti. The designers put it above the chassis for a reason...for best performance, it's best to leave it as designed.

Oh, and that condenser is indeed in series with the phono input.
