Philco 37-116 and philco 116x
#1

Went out to the country in Illinois with my bud Don Ferguson to pick up some junk chassis and stuff. That was the plan and we couldn't believe what we found. Two get this two 37-116 consoles complete with speakers, clarifiers, good grill cloth. Plus they had chassis only missing output tubes. Then in the same place we came across one complete Philco 116x. The cabinets are in decent shape and are repairable. Here are some pictures of the 116x and one of the 37-116's.[Image: http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a508...91c044.jpg]the 116x[Image: http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a508...24d03e.jpg]and the one of the 37-116's[Image: http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a508...b377f5.jpg][Image: http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a508...2afb13.jpg] we will let you all know what we are going to do with them. And another thing I'm still in shock that we came accross these philco masterpieces.?

Can I ask a favor, so when you disassemble it, you take pics of how wires going to the lamps and the switch of the dial assembly? I took it all off this May and now I forgot how to route them (I know where they solder to but can't quite remember what orifices they enter and exit from).

Yes we will document the process and take pictures. By the way which chassis the 116x or the 37-116? We are working on a 37-116 every Monday so let me know and we can get right on it.

Wow! Unbelievable! The dials don't appear to be warped much (if at all), either, judging from the pictures! What spectacular finds! Icon_clap

Great find!!!!! almost the top of the line for 1936 and 1937. Both wonderful sounding sets. I've got two of each!!! One of the '37's was working some years back but the other three are in need of service.

That's not a brown recluse on the third picture, near the top left next to the dial, is it? Icon_eek

Could be a brown recluse spider but he's long dead, we are going back to the same spot tomorrow and see what else we can find. Yes folks there's more .

I have finished mine electronically - it is working.
yesterday I made the lights work - had to sacrifice most of the originall lamps, they were welded with the rust, I was able to extract just one and it was working; a pity!
But I bought 250mA ones - they work just fine and as bright as the one that is (if it is the original) 450mA.

Can't bring myself to finish the dial assembly... we are having my old folks over and so that of course takes time.

Here are some pictures of the 116X cabinet,[Image: http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a508...70c877.jpg][Image: http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a508...a439e7.jpg][Image: http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a508...7a4456.jpg] I'm going to clean it up and see what needs to be done.
