Found a Midwest Radio/Phono PICS ADDED

I think that Midwest dial is one of my all-time favorite art deco pieces.

I just ran across this website with some good information about the restoration of a Midwest console online the other day. It has the same dial as yours and he explains the "Tunalite" tuning indicator (hint: it doesn't come in a puck-shaped can). Now that I go back and look at it, his chassis is the same (18-36) as yours, too. Just wait till you polish it up!

He's got plenty of pictures there, too.

It's not how bad you mess up, it's how well you can recover.

Gene,

In the fifth pic down, to the right of the speakers, are those metal devices. Perhaps just baffles? I thought them to be electrostatic tweeters, ala the Euro radios of the era.

Yes, those are just baffles. Maybe to help cabinet resonance?

Here is a pic of the dial trim cleaned up and the tune a lite on the front of the chassis. Note the one tube I have cleaned on the left rear of the chassis. With the chassis sitting in the cabinet on an angle, one side of everything on that chassis is wicked dirty.

Well there has been some progress on the cabinet. Mostly stripped now, but the temps have dropped too low to do any spraying. I also figured out from Mike Simpson I have the wrong color grain filler for this cabinet. So before much else can get accomplished more grain filler has to be purchased.

Going to be a nice radio Gene. With a little help from Mike Simpson, I recapped one for a friend (18 tube console) and it was a great performer. Can't wait for more pictures of your progress.
