Knight 650 Signal Generator
#1

Is there any test that I can perform on the signal generator to make sure it is working properly. I suspect that the SG that a friend of mine let me borrow is not working properly.
#2

I use a modern digital radio to monitor the output frequency of my old Eico if I doubt its accuracy.
#3

Thanks, Tom, but I wonder if the unit is working at all. I've never worked with a SG before, so I am may be asking weird questions.

Should there be any voltages between the leads? My unit shows only .02. BTW, it powers up, light comes on, and there is voltage at the electrolytics and at the tubes.

No you shouldn't measure anything with a normal DVM. Set the signal generator to 1 MHz and turn on the modulation. Then clip it to a working radio's antenna. You should get a loud tone around the middle of the AM band. Without it clipped to the antenna it should still pick up a signal from the generator, but it will probably be weak.
