Model E976
#1

Hello everyone....newbie here. I am very interested in beginning a small collection of vintage/antique radios and have the opportunity to start my collection with a Philco model E976. I know this model to be from 1957 and was the only tabletop that year to offer AM/FM/SB. I realize value is very subjective but was wondering what any one here knows about this model. It is in extraordinary condition and everything appears to work 100%. Any info would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to meeting and talking with everyone here....thanks!!![/font]

Welcome to the Phorum! One sold on Ebay last month for $52 plus shipping; a blond (fruitwood) verson of one had no bids in December (with a starting ask of $49.99); and there were no bids on another in June (starting ask of $49). If you've got one available to buy, its in nice shape and playing...go for itIcon_thumbup

Hey, Welcome to the forum!

When you mentioned that everything worked 100%, does that mean this radio has been serviced? Among other things, the electrolytic and paper capacitors as well as all out of tolerance resisters need to be replaced. If the radio hums, that would be a sure sign the electrolytic capacitors need replacement. I would make sure of that before plugging it in and turning it on. If these items have not been replaced, you are living on borrowed time.

A really good site for newbies is Phils old radios at www.antiqueradio.org. Check out his beginners section.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

Tom
